Q: Is there a table that relates credit scores and rates card issuers charge? I want to contact my credit card issuers and renegotiate the rates they want to charge me, having my good credit scores as leverage.
A: There are basically three credit score groups: "Super-Prime" (FICO 760-850); "Prime" (FICO 660-759); and "Sub-Prime" (FICO 500-659). If you fall in the "Super-Prime" group you should be paying less than 5 percentage points over the prime rate; the "Prime" group pays about 9 percentage points over prime; and the "Sub-Prime" group pays about 15 percentage points over prime.
