Credit Card News - Check-Up Time

Consumers mustn't neglect the annual financial to-do list of checking credit report details, especially as credit card issuers reduced credit lines and closed accounts in the final months of last year. A new survey by TrueCredit.com found that 63% of consumers say they know their credit score, more than half say it's been at least six months since they've checked their credit report. Moreover, nearly one in ten say they've never checked it. No excuse as the federal "Fair Credit Reporting Act" requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – to provide you with a free copy of your credit report at your request once every 12 months. But there’s only one online source authorized to do so. That’s annualcreditreport.com. Beware of other sites that may look and sound similar. The Federal Trade Commission advises consumers who order their free annual credit reports online to be sure to correctly spell annualcreditreport.com to avoid being misdirected to other websites that offer supposedly free reports, but only with the purchase of other products.
