The "Cyber Monday" myth is fading quickly. New data show that Thursday, December 6th was the heaviest online spending day in history. VA-based comScore estimates that online sales hit $803 million on that day, up 28% versus one-year ago. To-date more than $18 billion has been spent online during this year's holiday season, an 18% gain versus the corresponding days last year. Also, the latest Chase Paymentech "Pulse Index," which tracks e-merchants, found that overall online sales are running 30% above last year levels. On "Cyber Monday," November 26th, sales volume for the 10 retail Web sites tracked by the "Index" hit $104.8 million. But, online sales volume rose to $134 million on Wednesday November 28th, an all-time high in the three-year history of the "Index." It is projected that online activity for Monday, December 10th may approach $1 billion in sales.
