During the first three months of this year, there were 401,149 consumer and business bankruptcy filings, which was down slightly from 1Q/04's 407,572 filings. The decline does not reflect the radical upswing in bankruptcies filed in March and April. Year-to-date consumer and business bankruptcy filings were down slightly to 1,141,715.
