Americans appear to be doing okay when it comes to credit utilization, as the overall national average credit score now sits at 678, on a scale from 330 to 830. Based on credit bureau data, less than 17% of Americans use more than 50% of their available credit. The information is based on Experian's "National Score Index" and its "PLUS" score methodology. The study found that U.S. consumers who use at least 50% of their available credit carry an average of 4.6 credit cards, and only 10% of the U.S. population have more than 10 credit cards. The national average is 3.2 cards per person. Experian says about 46% have at least two credit cards. The national average credit score for those with credit card utilization of at least 50% is 631. New Yorkers have an average score of 686, compared to 671 for Californians, 674 for Floridians, and 653 for Texans. For more information visit: http://www.NationalScore.com
