Computer keyboards and credit cards will be smokin' this holiday season. VISA says more Americans plan to shop online this holiday season than ever before. Fifty-five percent of respondents to a VISA survey said they plan to shop online for gifts this holiday season compared to 46% for 1998. Most people, 61%, are buying holiday gifts for their children and almost half of those surveyed shop at night, from 6-11 PM. As expected, credit cards are the overwhelming choice for online shoppers (88%) and one-third of respondents plan on using their debit card online this year. The annual VISA survey determined what Americans intend to buy online: books (45%), toys (41%), music (39%) and clothes (35%), computer equipment/software (24%), followed by electronics (18%) are at the top of this year's online shopping list. Gift certificates (14%), gourmet food (13%), sporting goods (11%) and subscriptions (6%) round out this year's top gifts. For more information visit: www.visa.com.
