SCORE "Counselors to America's
Small Business" honors American Express OPEN for its dedication to the success of
small business owners. Marcy Shinder, vice president of brand management for
American Express OPEN, will accept the SCORE Award for Corporate Small Business
Supporter of the Year at the inaugural SCORE Awards and black-tie gala, which will
be held at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Thursday,
September 17.
For the third year in a row, American Express OPEN has renewed its alliance with
SCORE to provide small business owners with free business counseling, timely
workshops and peer networking as part of the Small Business Speed Coaching Test
Drive Series, held in key U.S. markets. The series of single-day events delivered
face-to-face counseling to more than 2,000 new and emerging small businesses.
The Small Business Speed Coaching Test Drive offers small business owners exclusive
one-on-one evaluation sessions with business experts from SCORE, along with
interactive workshops focused on helping businesses survive and grow. In addition,
American Express OPEN sponsors the SCORE Web site, www.score.org, which helps SCORE
reach millions of people online each year.
"Through working in close collaboration with our partners at SCORE, and their vast
network of knowledgeable counselors, we were able to create a unique national
business coaching initiative, which provides small business owners with vital
resources and assist them to develop strategies to weather the current economic
environment," says Marcy Shinder, vice president of brand management at American
Express OPEN. "We are ecstatic and honored to be the first ever recipient of this
award, as it illustrates the positive impact SCORE and OPEN have made on the growth
objectives of today's entrepreneurs over the past few years."
SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, "American Express OPEN continues to offer outstanding
support to American small businesses and SCORE. Their support has a valuable impact
on the success of everyday entrepreneurs." Yancey adds, "The popular speed coaching
program, sponsored by American Express OPEN, encourages business owners to get a
mentor, which is especially important during a down economy. SCORE salutes American
Express OPEN for supporting SCORE mentoring and resources that reach millions each
year."
